Night City has never truly been quiet.
Even after David Martinez's story came to an end, the world of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners never stopped moving. In 2026, this city of cyberware, gangs, corporations, and ambition will welcome a new group of Edgerunners.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 will premiere exclusively on Netflix worldwide on October 20, 2026, with 10 episodes.
But this time, viewers won't be following David's footsteps again.
CD PROJEKT RED and Japanese animation studio TRIGGER are bringing the story back to Night City with an entirely new cast of characters and a standalone story. Based on the information officially released so far, the new series will explore themes of redemption, revenge, family, obsession, and legacy, while taking another look at the city through a rougher, more grounded, and more brutal lens.
For anime fans, this marks a new chapter for Edgerunners.
For Cosplay fans, however, the most exciting part may be the visual identities of these brand-new characters.
Not David's Sequel

One of the most important things to understand about Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is that it is not a direct continuation of David's story.
The official description defines the second season as a standalone story.
The story still takes place in Night City, but the main characters, relationships, and conflicts are being rebuilt from the ground up. David's story has already come to an end, and a new generation of Edgerunners will face choices of their own.
According to the officially released story information, Weak, once known as "King," was a legendary Edgerunner who has now fallen from his former position. He is forced to live without cyberware enhancements and must find a new sense of purpose.
At the same time, D, a Nomad Netrunner from the Snake Nation, is on a path of revenge. He is searching for the people responsible for killing his tribe, a journey that gradually brings him closer to corporate secrets that were never meant to be uncovered.
How will these two very different paths eventually cross in Night City?
The full plot has not yet been revealed, so specific character relationships and story developments remain unconfirmed until the anime premieres.
Meet the New Characters

The new character lineup is one of the biggest reasons to keep an eye on Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2.
Weak

Weak was once known as "King."
According to the official character information, he was a veteran Edgerunner who once stood at the top of his game. Now, however, he is living in the shadow of his former glory. More importantly, Weak is now forced to live without Chrome. Rather than simply repeating the first season's familiar path of constantly upgrading one's body, Edgerunners 2 approaches the Cyberpunk world from another direction: When someone loses the power they once relied on, what remains?
Weak is voiced by Kentaro Tone (とねけんたろう).
For Cosplay fans, Weak is also one of the four main new characters with a particularly recognizable identity. His background carries the feeling of a former legend, but his complete equipment and costume details have not yet been officially revealed. More details will need to wait for additional official visuals.
D

If Weak's story is largely about loss, D's story is driven by revenge.
D is a Nomad from the Snake Nation and a skilled Netrunner. Official information confirms that he is searching for those responsible for killing his tribe. As with the first season, the Cyberpunk world is not simply about becoming stronger through technology. D's identity connects three different elements: Nomad culture, Netrunning, and revenge.
That combination gives his character a distinctive blend of technology and the harshness of life outside Night City.
D is voiced by Koki Uchiyama (うちやまこうき).
Roman Carax

Roman may be the most unusual of the four main new characters.
He is a young film enthusiast. In a city that has increasingly moved away from traditional film and toward Braindance, Roman remains fascinated by documenting real people and real stories. He follows different lives across Night City, hoping to capture moments that are genuinely worth recording.
But Night City is not a film that can simply follow a script. Official information suggests that Roman's pursuit of real stories will gradually expose him to the harsher side of the city.
Roman is voiced by Momoka Terasawa (てらさわももか).
Based on the character information released so far, Roman may become another important perspective through which viewers experience Night City. Rather than entering the city simply to survive, he is trying to understand and document the people living inside it.
Talia

Talia grew up in a very different environment from D and Weak.
She was born in a Corpo tower but grew up surrounded by the Maelstrom gang and deeply influenced by its extreme, violent, and Chrome-obsessed culture. Official information describes her as highly independent while being deeply embedded in the world of Maelstrom.
Talia is voiced by Akari Kito (きとうあかり).
Her character also brings one of the classic questions of the Cyberpunk universe back into focus: How much of the human body should remain human?
Her complete story has not yet been officially revealed, so her eventual loyalties and relationships with the other characters remain unconfirmed.
More Characters

If you are only following the four main characters, there is actually more to the official lineup.
The official character information has also introduced Avida, Sal, Jessie, Kitano, and Richard, among others.
Avida is particularly interesting. She was once a jazz singer and part of the corporate world, as well as Weak's former lover. She is now married to a Kang Tao executive, while her life is closely connected to her daughter, Talia. That means the relationship between Weak and Talia is not simply that of two strangers.
Exactly how this connection will affect the main story remains unknown.
And that may be one of the most interesting aspects of Edgerunners 2 so far: we already know that some of these characters are connected, but we still don't know where those connections will ultimately lead.
Where Will the Story Go?
So far, several key themes have been clearly established: Redemption. Revenge. Family. Obsession. Legacy.
The official story information shows Weak searching for a new sense of purpose, while D is pursuing revenge. Roman wants to document reality, while Talia is deeply influenced by Maelstrom culture. These characters don't look like a traditional team of heroes. They look more like a group of people pushed together by Night City itself.
And that may be one of the most interesting things about the second season.
The first season followed David as he gradually became an Edgerunner. Based on the information currently available, the second season appears to be asking a different question:
When someone has already lost their past, can they redefine who they are?
Of course, this is an interpretation based on officially released character and story information, not a confirmed plot point. The real answer will have to wait until all 10 episodes are released.
A New Creative Team
The production team behind Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 brings both new direction and familiar creative talent.
The series is directed by Kai Ikarashi ( いからしかい). He is not entirely new to the Edgerunners universe. Ikarashi previously worked on the first season and directed Episode 6, "Girl on Fire." This time, he takes the lead on the new story.
Character design is handled by Ichigo Kanno (かんのいちご). Meanwhile, key creators from the first season, Masahiko Otsuka (おおつかまさひこ) and Bartosz Sztybor, are returning. Sztybor serves as Showrunner, Story Writer, and Producer. This combination is particularly interesting.
The director has changed, but the creative connection to the first season has not been completely severed.
That means the second season has room to establish its own visual and storytelling identity without completely abandoning the foundation of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
For the music, Tsuneo Imahori (いまほり つねお) is responsible for the original score. Based on the officially released second teaser, the new series also appears to be emphasizing a rougher and more direct visual and sonic atmosphere.
Writer Bartosz Sztybor has also previously described the second season as aiming to be sadder, darker, bloodier, and more raw.
This is not a plot spoiler, but rather a clear indication of the creative direction described by the show's creators.
Why Should Cosplay Fans Pay Attention?

For most anime fans, one of the biggest attractions of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 will be the story and the return to Night City.
For Cosplayers, however, there is another reason to pay attention: New characters mean completely new Cosplay possibilities.
David, Lucy, and Rebecca from the first season have already developed instantly recognizable visual identities.
The second season is starting from a completely different lineup.
Weak, D, Roman, and Talia all come from very different backgrounds:
-
Weak: Former legendary Edgerunner dealing with life after losing his Chrome
-
D: Snake Nation Nomad + Netrunner + revenge-driven character
-
Roman: Film enthusiast and observer of real life
-
Talia: Corpo background + Maelstrom culture
This means the Cosplay potential of the second season is not simply about recreating the Cyberpunk aesthetic. The lifestyles, affiliations, and personal histories behind each character may eventually be reflected in their clothing, cyberware, accessories, and overall visual identity.
For Cosplayers who enjoy customizing or modifying their costumes, these kinds of characters can offer plenty of room for creative interpretation.
Of course, some of the characters' complete costume details have not yet been officially revealed.
So if you're already thinking about creating a Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 cosplay, the safest approach is to follow official character visuals and the actual anime rather than relying entirely on unconfirmed fan-made designs.
October 20: Back to Night City

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is no longer a distant project.
On October 20, 2026, the anime will premiere exclusively on Netflix.
This time, there is no David. No Lucy. Night City is still here. And a new generation of Edgerunners has entered the city.
For Cosplay fans, perhaps the most exciting question isn't simply "Who will become the next David?" but whether these new characters can establish visual identities of their own.
As the anime premieres and more official materials are released, the costumes, cyberware, and equipment of Weak, D, Roman, Talia, and the other characters will gradually become clearer.
